Advancing Dysphagia Care

How ESSD helps improve Dysphagia care

ESSD promotes much-needed interdisciplinary collaboration

Due to its many types and causes, Dysphagia diagnosis and treatment require the expertise and support from a wide range of medical and healthcare professionals. Teams may include but are not limited to speech and language therapists, gastroenterologists, otolaryngologists, neurologists, surgeons, dietitians, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and radiologists, who often need to work together to offer the best patient care. ESSD promotes international and interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange for the patient's good

ESSD is the European forum of dysphagia research and education

Research and education concerning Dysphagia can improve the ability of physicians and speech-language pathologists to evaluate and treat swallowing disorders. It is also important to continue studies into treatment methods to discover why some forms of treatment work with some people and not with others. Through its annual congress, its webinar series and its other educational offers, ESSD provides a forum for Dysphagia professionals to share their research and insights on dysphagia and dysphagia care. The society is present on the editorial board of the bi-monthly international Dysphagia journal, and offers free access to its articles to all members.

ESSD raises awareness about Dysphagia

ESSD teams up with other Dysphagia organisations, related medical societies, and key stakeholders from policy and industry to raise the awareness about Dysphagia in the general public. It is an active participant in the annual World Swallowing Day campaign and offers its experts to speak about Dysphagia at public events
